American
Driver Corey Christensen Earns Top Spot For Legends World
Final
Brits Well Placed For Saturday's Races
Oklahoma
based driver Corey Christensen captured the pole on Friday
during qualifying for the 9th annual Legends Road Course Nationals
at Infineon Raceway.
Christensen
posted the top time during Friday’s heat races over the twisting
12-turn, 2.52-mile road course and will start on the pole
for Saturday’s main event in the premier Pro Class. Bobby
Pugh (Stillwater, Okla.) was second fastest and will start
alongside Christensen on the front row. Top UK driver in the
Pro ranks was former Scottish Champion and current National
Championship front runner Jamie Clarke who qualified in fifth.
Sacramento’s
Steve Fensler Jr., who entered the weekend leading the World
points standings in the Pro Class, suffered mechanical problems
during his heat race and will start at the back of the field.
The Masters
division is regarded by many as the toughest of the three
classes- and certainly it is the best subscribed. The 2005
UK Champion, Peter Morton (Cleckeaton), had a good qualifying
day and starts third although it's his arch rival Robert Gayton
who starts on pole. Gayton was to blame for the Yorkshireman's
retirement in last year's final with Morton, now appropriately
it seems, saying "He'll be looking in his mirrors this
year for sure." The Clarke family completed as very good
day with Jamie's father, Jim right behind Morton in fourth
position.
