Brits go fourth...
Christensen Takes Championship in Legends World Finals

American racer Jeremy Christensen used a last-lap pass to claim his first-ever championship at Infineon Raceway on Saturday in the 9th annual Legends World Championships. More than 120 drivers from around the world competed at Infineon Raceway during the two-day event.

Top Brit Jamie Clarke maintained his impressive record at the event by qualifying fourth on Friday, a position he duly converted into fourth in the main event. The consistent Clarke has never been out of the top four in all four of his visits to Infineon.

Christensen (Yukon, Okla.) started fourth in the 11-lap main event in the premier Pro Class, but quickly took the top spot on lap 4 from Bobby Pugh (Stillwater, Okla.). He swapped the lead several times over the 12-turn, 2.52-mile road course before passing Cottonwood’s George Sheldon Jr. on the final lap. Sheldon Jr. held on for second place, with Roger Austin Jr. (Noakesville, Virg.) third.

Pole-sitter Corey Christensen suffered engine problems and retired from the race on the first lap. Sacramento’s Steve Fensler Jr., who entered the weekend leading the national points standings in the Pro Class, suffered mechanical problems during qualifying on Friday and did not start the main event.

Next Brit home in the Pro ranks was Simon Belcher (Swindon) who came home in 14th. Dave Newsham's (Inverness) first visit to Infineon ended in retirement.

In the Masters category Peter Morton's engine lost power in the race but he showed the Yorkshire grit that guided him to this year's UK title by steering the Firth Steels car home to the fourth place trophy. Scottish racer Ali Hunter also finished the race in 10th position.
