David
lost both legs - the left below knee and the right above -
and his left hand in a bomb accident at the age of 11 but
despite that early set back he has competed in 100 races (in
an MGB) and over 700 competitive events overall including
the RAC Rally 4 times.
To steer
he uses a ball on the wheel and a deep cup fitted to his artificial
arm and uses his left leg for the accelerator and brake which
are conventionally mounted on the floor. The gear change is
by push buttons on the wheel.
He is
the only disabled driver worldwide who holds both an International
Race and Rally Licences and has for the last 15 years been
Chairman of the British Motorsport Association for the Disabled
and also sits on the MSA Medical Panel representing all disabled
drivers who want to participate in motor.
